Veteran highlife musician Nana Acheampong has paid a deeply emotional tribute to his longtime friend and music partner, Daddy Lumba, following news of the highlife legend’s passing.
In a heartfelt message on Facebook, Nana Acheampong said he was struggling to come to terms with the loss of Charles Kwadwo Fosu, describing the news as a shock.
“Menua Kojo Fosu, why this shock? Hmmm… You have indeed done what the Creator brought you on earth to do. You will forever inspire generations,” he wrote.
The two highlife icons formed the celebrated duo Lumba Brothers in the late 1980s and are credited with revolutionising Ghana’s highlife sound. Their debut album Yereye Aka Akwantuo Mu remains a classic in Ghana’s music history.
“I and my family are in pain. To the family of my beloved brother, may God hold you tight in this moment,” Nana Acheampong added.
“Rest in glory, my brother and legend. Fly high, my Lumba brother.”
Daddy Lumba passed away early Saturday in Accra. He was widely regarded as one of Ghana’s greatest musical icons, with a career spanning over three decades and a catalogue of over 30 albums.
Tributes continue to pour in from across the country, with fans, politicians, and fellow artists remembering his unmatched influence and enduring legacy in Ghana’s cultural life.
