Drama erupted in a Madina-Accra commercial vehicle when the driver’s mate overcharged an elderly caucasian woman by GH¢0.50.
The woman, who boarded the car from Atomic Junction to Spanner Junction, insisted the fare was Gh¢ 4 instead of the GH¢ 4.50 the mate charged.
According to the woman, she regularly patronises commercial vehicles on the stretch and was aware of the fare.
Other passengers on board the vehicle tried to convince the mate to reimburse the old woman but to no avail.
This resulted in a heated argument between the two until they reached a police checkpoint.
To the surprise of other commuters, she directed the driver to stop the vehicle while she proceeded to report the case to the police.
Upon a quick inspection of the transport unions’ approved fare list, the police officer found the fare was indeed Gh¢ 4.
The officer directed the mate to return the GH¢ 0.50 to the woman.
An amateur video of the commotion making rounds on social media showed the woman and mate engaged in a further row, trading insults and threats until she reached her destination.
