Western Region hosts 2023 National Farmers Day

The baton to host the 39th National Farmers Day celebration has officially been handed over from the Eastern Region to the Western Region and the celebration is scheduled for 7th December, 2023.

As part of the ritual, this year’s 39th National Farmers Day celebration is to be organized by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in collaboration with the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development.

The 2023 National Farmers Day is under the theme, “Delivering Smart Solutions for Sustainable Food Security and Resilience”.

In his address, the Chairman of the Planning Committee and Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Hon. Yaw Frimpong Addo on behalf of Hon. Bryan Acheampong, Minister for Agriculture who did the launching said, farmers played an important role in the socio-economic development of the country.

The Ghanaian farmers Hon. Frimpong indicated, needed to be celebrated always for their immense contribution in ensuring food security for the nation and added that, farmers have sacrificed a lot for mother Ghana.

Hon. Moses Anim, Deputy Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development in his remarks on behalf of Hon. Mrs. Mavis Hawa Koomson, Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development expressed appreciation to the various sponsors through whose donations they have been able to improve on the awards presented to the hardworking farmers and fishers over the years.

“With their support, we have been able to motivate our farmers and fishers to work harder to ensure that we meet our food and nutritional requirements. I wish to once again appeal for your support to make this year’s celebration a memorable one for the farmers and fishers”.

In a short statement before handing over the baton, Hon. Seth Kwame Achiampong, the Eastern Region Minister affirmed that farmers are the backbone of Ghana’s economy through which the country ends a lot of foreign exchange.

Eastern Region he stated, has made strides in agriculture by contributing to the increase in the country’s food basket.

On his part, the Western Region Minister, Hon. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah commended Ghanaian farmers for uplifting the nation high with all their energy.

He therefore on behalf of the people of Western Region, thanked the people of Ghana for having confidence in them and assured to ensure that, this year’s 39th National Farmers Day celebration becomes a success.

The “Best” he emphasized, always comes from the West because, they produce a lot and, the Region is currently cultivating coconut and rice on a large scale.

He used the occasion to call on investors who want to go into coconut and rice production, to channel all their resources to the Western Region which they are ever ready to support.
