Weezy Empire, producers of the film A Country Called Ghana, has served Abrempong TV, a Nsawam-based television station, with a cease-and-desist notice over what it describes as the unauthorised broadcast of its movie.
In a letter dated 2 September 2025 and signed by Enoch Sebastian Owusu, Managing Partner of Nexlaw Attorneys, Weezy Empire accused the station of airing the film multiple times without authorisation, license, or consent, an act the company says constitutes “a blatant infringement” of its copyright under Ghanaian law.
According to the notice, the unauthorised broadcast has caused “substantial commercial loss and damage” to the company’s intellectual property rights.
Weezy Empire is demanding that Abrempong TV pay compensation of GH¢1 million (US$75,000) for the alleged infringement and immediately cease broadcasting the film or any of its productions without consent.
The lawyers warned that failure to comply within 14 days would leave their client with no choice but to initiate legal proceedings to recover damages and litigation costs.
“You cease any further broadcast of the subject movie or any of our client’s productions without its consent,” the letter stressed.
