VGMA Recap: I wasn’t desperate to win the Artist of the Year- Piesie Esther 

Renowned gospel musician Piesie Esther has emphasized that she was not desperate to be crowned Artist of the Year at the 24th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards held over the weekend.

The 24th VGMA had nominees like Black Sherif, Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, King Promise, Camidoh, Kidi, Piesie Esther
and Joe Mettle.

As the date for the main contest drew closer, Piesie Esther and Black Sherif were all over the media with social media users predicting that the main Artist of the Year is between Black Sherif and Piesie Esther.

Prior to the awards night, the gospel fraternity including the Church of Pentecost rallied massive support for Piesie Esther to win the Artist of the Year but the baton went to Black Sherif.

Piesie Esther however won the Gospel Artist of the Year and Best Gospel Song of the Year.

In an interview monitored by The Ghana Report on Joy, the ‘Way3 Me Yie’ hitmaker said she wasn’t desperate to win the Artist of the Year as people claimed.

According to her, she was prepared to welcome any outcome at the VGMA, and winning the Gospel Artist of the Year and Best Gospel Song of the Year are positive things she should be grateful for.

When she was asked about how she felt after the declaration of the Artist of the Year, she said,

” I felt good. I tuned my mind that if I win it’s fine and if I don’t win, that’s also ok”.

“I wasn’t desperate to win the Artist of the Year”.

Furthermore, Piesie Esther applauded Black Sherif for winning the main Artist of the Year.

According to her, Black Sherif has a very powerful voice and she will be glad if Black Sherif joins her in gospel music in the future.
