In a latest development, the Senior Staff Association of Ghana, in collaboration with the Technical University Administrators Association and the Federation of Universities Senior Staff Association, has declared an indefinite strike effective today, Wednesday, May 21.
According to the unions, the incumbent government and the previous administration have failed to honour a six-month-old agreement meant to improve their conditions of service.
Addressing the media, George Ansong, National Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Ghana, directed their members not to return to work until their concerns are addressed.
“The Technical Universities Administrators Association of Ghana (TUWAG) and the Federation of University Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSAG) announce, with deep regret but unwavering resolve, our decision to embark on an indefinite strike action,” Mr Ansong noted.
According to Mr. Ansong, the group has engaged with the government several times, but no positive result.
“The government has continuously reneged on its commitment, thereby undermining the trust and cooperation that should exist between both parties,” he added.
They, however, called off the strike in October after the government issued a letter indicating that the new rate of the Vehicle Maintenance Allowance (VMA) and Off-Campus Allowance would be paid to eligible members of the Association.
