‘United we stand divided we fall’- Shatta Wale calls on VGMA organisers for consensus

Ghanaian dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr alias Shatta Wale has disclosed that he will only participate in the annual Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) if the organisers would make a move first to approach him for consensus.

The 2014 VGMA Artiste of the Year said if he will show any interest in the award ceremony which is geared towards celebrating Ghanaian artistes, the organisers should find a ‘nicer way’ to approach him for them to have a dialogue to settle their beef.

Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy were banned from participating in the annual VGMA events after their scuffle on stage during the 2019 VGMA.

Shatta Wale, in 2022 vowed never to participate in the VGMA program again although the ban was lifted on the duo.

Stonebwoy in 2022 and 2023 was nominated for the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. He has been nominated again in the 24th edition scheduled for Saturday, 13th May 2023, at the Grand Arena of Accra International Conference Centre.

Shatta Wale since the misunderstanding between the organisers of VGMA and himself in 2019 has never been nominated in any of the VGMA categories although the organisers have asked him to show interest and he would be nominated.

The Shatta Movement hitmaker in an interview monitored by The Ghana Report on Hitz FM said “VGMA is my ex-girlfriend, anytime they want to come back I am here. I feel because they are the ones organizing this and there should be a nice approach.”

“If they should also find someone from the office to come and invite me to come on board and it will be beautiful”, he added.

When asked if he is extending an invitation to organisers he answered, “we should take this like that…we have to understand that united we stand divided we fall.”

He continued, “I don’t have VGMA at heart and I don’t have any enemy there. It’s just that things happen and we move on.”
