Two couples have been arrested for robbery at Saltpond in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region.
The incident occurred on Monday, July 31, 2023.
Information gathered indicates that upon reaching a section of the road, the two suspects aboard a taxicab with registration number GC-6020-21 from Winneba towards Cape Coast stopped, snatched some passengers’ bags, and sped off.
When they arrived in Saltpond, they again snatched someone else’s bag.
The victim’s cry for help caught the attention of some nearby taxi drivers.
Unfortunately, luck was not on their side as the drivers chased and apprehended them.
The driver then called in the police, who arrived to convey the suspects to the police station.
Some drugs believed to be marijuana were also retrieved from the suspects.
The suspects are believed to be in their 50s.
The male suspects have been identified as Kojo Owusu and Kwame Bempong, while the names of the female suspects are currently unknown.
These individuals reportedly committed the crimes within a period of three days, stealing an undisclosed amount of money from their victims.
The suspects are assisting the police in investigations at the Saltpond Police Station and will be arraigned soon.
