The Ho Circuit Court has handed down sentences in the case of three suspects arrested by the Volta Regional Police Command for attempting to steal a transformer in Adaklu Tsrefe on October 5.
Two of the suspects, Sitsofe Agbodza, aged 26, and Deladem Kodzo Tsrakasu, aged 29, were both sentenced to five years imprisonment.
They pleaded guilty to charges of theft and an attempt to destroy public property.
The third suspect, 20-year-old plumber Abdul Wahab Seydou, will have his sentence determined in the next three weeks.
The trial judge Joseph Nadaado Mac-Ali Junior ordered a social enquiry to be conducted on Mr. Wahab, given his age and first-time offender status, before rendering a verdict.
Their woes started when some Adaklu Tsrefe residents reported them to the Volta Regional Police Command for vandalizing an ECG transformer and stealing valuable components from it on October 5.
Benjamin Obeng Antwi, the ECG Volta Regional PRO, expressed the company’s commitment to providing reliable electricity services but emphasized that the activities of such individuals hinder their ability to fulfill this mission.
According to him, the stolen transformer, valued at GHC104,000 has caused disruptions to power supply and financial implications for the company.
ECG’s General Manager in the Volta Region, Ms. Christina Jatoe-Kaleo, urged the public to remain vigilant and protect ECG installations, report any suspicious activity at ECG substations or facilities.
She warned those involved in illegal acts against ECG property to desist from such activities, as the company is prepared to prosecute offenders.
Ms. Jatoe-Kaleo commended the community for their vigilance and the Ghana Police Service for their prompt response.
She assured the public of the company’s commitment to delivering stable power supply and excellent customer service.
