An aide of Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has urged ruling party supporters to stay calm after provisional results showed that the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, lost Lagos – the biggest state – to Peter Obi.
Bashir Ahmad said on Twitter: “The fact that the APC narrowly lost Lagos State to another party should not be the reason for violence. As a democrat, you win some, you lose some.”
Tinubu has historically been seen as a powerful figure in Lagos and was once its governor.
