Wild dogs, yes are wild in the strictest sense of the word. The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (Ghapoha), operates a subtle security system that is divulged by this story. The port plays the traditional role of managing players in the maritime industry which sometimes encounters security breaches. As a complement to humans and technology in policing the port, specially trained dogs have been secured to play the third eye role.
The average heights of the dogs are anything between 2 and 3 feet. These do not look like ordinary pets as they are “sensible predators.”
Any substance or element hidden somewhere within the boundaries of operation, the dogs have the ability to detect from their extraordinary senses. The silent dogs are caged within buzzing areas of the port but soon you could find them roaring (barking a milder term), once they are unleashed to perform a duty. But for the curbs of dog managers, the dogs would have spilled from their hideout and caused a stir.
The Director General of Ghapoha, Mr. Michael Luguje says the port’s security is sent overseas to train on how to handle wild dogs. Where technology failed to detect, the dogs have the metaphysical acumen to find. To test this capability, a pouch with contrabands was hidden in an outlandish place whilst a heap of items was placed within the view of the search dogs.
It did not look like the Ghapoha dogs would fall for the trick embedded in the diversionary tactic. After nosing around, the special dogs went all the way to the place where the contrabands were kept to retrieve them for humans.
Prior to this, one of the dogs left unattended ran amok, jumping from a distance of about 15 meters and zooming straight into a media vehicle positioned for occupants to observe a simulation exercise. Once the animal fixed a gaze on the vehicle and barked, the occupants sensed danger. However, before the vehicle door which was ajar could be shut, the flying dog was already in their midst. It was at a lightning speed, perhaps with a duration shorter than a split second.
When guards at Ghapoha intervened, no one needed to be told it was a career scariest moment for the Journalists who faced the onslaught. They panicked and immediately requested to be led away from the site.
