Nigerian singer and songwriter Simi has told her followers to stop calling her daughter ‘Duduke’.

In an interview with media personality VJ Adams, Simi clarified that ‘Duduke’ is not her daughter’s actual name and, more importantly, holds no significant meaning.

During the conversation, Simi expressed her discomfort with the nickname, stating that “some people call my daughter ‘Duduke’, which I don’t like. That’s not her name. It doesn’t mean anything.”

She elaborated on the song ‘Duduke’, explaining that while the title evokes a catchy melody inspired by the rhythm of her heartbeat, it doesn’t carry any deeper significance.

“It’s just a beat—that’s what I meant. My heartbeat is like a drum.”

Despite understanding that the affectionate nickname may come from a place of love and admiration, Simi emphasised that it still feels unsettling for her as a parent.

“I try not to react too much to that, but stop calling my child ‘Duduke’, she urged, making it clear how important it is for her to maintain her daughter’s identity.

Simi welcomed her daughter, named Adejare, in 2020 with her husband, fellow musician Adekunle Gold.

She appreciates the support of her fans but hopes they can respect her wishes regarding her child’s name.
