The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin Salim, has rallied delegates of the governing NPP in his region behind the party’s General Secretary, John Boadu, for another term in office.
Dr Salim believes it would take a General Secretary like Mr Boadu to ‘Break the 8’ and deliver an unprecedented consecutive third term win for the NPP in the 2024 polls.
He is convinced that the winning team must be retained because Mr Boadu had demonstrated his political prowess in assisting the NPP to snatch victory in 2016 and maintain power in 2020.
Like John the Baptist led the way for Jesus Christ, he has put his foot forward to sway majority of the votes in favour of Mr Boadu even before an official campaign begins in the region.
“We need people who have gone through the mill, people with the wherewithal to be able to lead us [NPP]. So, my brother, even before he [John Boadu] started his campaign, I have elected to be his campaign manager for the region.
“We are not going to spare any effort to ensure that majority, if not all of the delegates from the Upper West Region, fall in line. We want to succeed, and we believe that through his leadership, we will be able to succeed,” Dr Salim resolved as Mr Boadu and his team paid a courtesy call on him at Wa.
The thoughts of other regional leaders resonated with that of the regional minister as the re-elected Regional Chairman, S.B. Kangberee, also threw his weight behind Mr Boadu.
“As far as we are concerned in Upper West, you [John Boadu] are the anointed one,” he stated. “Retaining him is in our collective interest.”
The two were not alone.
On behalf of the Municipal Metropolitan or District Chief Executives (MMDCES) in the region, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Daffiama Bussie Issa, Imoro Sanda, indicated that members should not toy with the fortunes of the party by voting for an untested candidate.
Before the trip to Wa, over 15 NPP gurus, including former Speaker of Parliament Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye, former CEO of the Bui Power Authority Mr Fred Oware and the National Chairman of the NPP Freddie Blay, had endorsed Mr Boadu’s candidature in Accra.
The National Executive Elections of the NPP is scheduled to be held between 14-16 July 2022.
Mr Boadu’s profile
John Boadu is considered the longest-serving national officer of the NPP in history.
He obtained a GCE Advanced Level Certificate from the Opoku Ware Secondary School in Kumasi and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Accounting option) from the University of Ghana.
He is arguably the most experienced NPP executive, having occupied positions in the party at all levels.
Before his rise to the national level, he served the party at the grassroots.
He was Polling Station Chairman, Constituency Secretary (Ablekuma South), Regional Research and Information Officer (Greater Accra), National Finance Officer, National Youth Treasurer, National Deputy Communications Director, National Youth Organizer, National Organizer, Director of Operations and Logistics (both 2016 and 2020 general elections) and currently the General Secretary.
