The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has said the reduction in road crashes in 2022 as compared to 2021 is very commendable, although the percentage is marginal.
Speaking to Kwaku Nhyira-Addo on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Wednesday (11 January), the director-general of the NRSA, David Osarfo Adonten said the development is an indication that the measures being rolled out to address carnage on the roads are yielding results.
“For example, in the crashes, comparing 2022 to 2021 we are seeing a 7.55% reduction, that is reducing from 16,000 to 14,000, we are seeing the vehicles involved reduced by 6.74%, that’s from 27,000 to 25,000 and so on.”
“It is quite refreshing, despite the fact that we all believe that even one death is too much for us to bear when you see reduction, it is a clear indication that something positive is being put in place to make sure we don’t record higher figures,” Osarfo Adonten said.
“2,373 is still high but if you are able to reduce to a margin of about 600 deaths, I think it is also very significant that we need to be proud of,” he added.
