Raphinha, Ousmane Dembele, Mo Salah and African duo nominated for 2025 Ballon D’Or

Liverpool and Egypt’s Mohamed Salah leads a trio of African players nominated for the 2025 Ballon d’Or Award, with the list of nominated players announced earlier on Thursday, August 7.

Morocco and Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi and Guinea and Borussia Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy have been nominated alongside Salah.

Hakimi excelled in PSG’s brilliant 2024-2025 campaign that had him win the UEFA Champions League, French Ligue 1 and French Cup titles.

Salah, on the other hand, starred in Liverpool’s English Premier League title win under first-year head coach Arne Slot. Salah led the league in goals scored and assists along the way.

Nominated with the African trio are Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe, FC Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal, among others. Yamal has also been nominated for the Young Player (Kopa) Award.

However, Barcelona’s Raphinha, PSG’s Ousmane Dembele and PSG Portuguese midfielder Vitinha are heavily tipped as the favourites to win the prestigious French magazine award that recognizes the best player in the immediate past campaign.
