The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has launched investigations into the alleged rape and murder of a 22-year-old lady at Anwiankwanta, in the Asante Bekwai Municipality.
Disturbingly, there were bloodstains on her person and the floor where she was found, indicating a gruesome ordeal.
She reportedly didn’t return home after work on Friday evening, causing grave concern among her family and community members.
The family members then mounted a search for her, until they found her lifeless body in the uncompleted building on Saturday at 4 pm.
The family of the deceased also disclosed that they suspect their daughter was used for illegal mining (galamsey) rituals.
“We have been told that our daughter had a lift from a popular ‘galamseyer’ who offered to drop her off at the house in his private car”.
“Abena then went missing only for us to discover she has been murdered by unknown assailants”.
Nana Kwarteng Amoaning further revealed that one suspect has been arrested in connection with the alleged murder.
Information gathered indicates that the suspect is a girl called Mary, an 18-year-old hairdresser who was a friend of Abena.
According to him, Mary was the one who introduced Abena to the ‘galamseyer’.
He revealed that Mary and Abena were reported to have boarded the car together before Abena was murdered.
Following this, the police in the area invited her to give her statement, but she was arrested upon arrival at the station.
