Police arrest robbery suspect after brutal attack on delivery rider in Tantra Hill

The Accra Regional Police Intelligence Unit has launched an investigation into a robbery involving a delivery rider at Tantra Hill in Accra, following a violent incident that occurred on Thursday, December 11, 2025.

According to the police, the rider had received a delivery request from an eatery in Achimota to a location in Tantra Hill.

Upon reaching the destination, he was confronted by two men on a motorbike. One of the suspects, wielding a machete, struck the rider on the back with the blunt side of the weapon and threatened to kill him if he resisted.

Fearing for his life, the rider attempted to protect his motorbike and his Samsung A05 mobile phone, but both items were forcibly taken during the attack.

He sustained injuries to his left hand and later reported the incident to the police.

Following swift investigations, officers from the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Unit tracked down one of the suspects.

On Friday, December 12, 2025, the police arrested Akwesi Atanzumi, a 29-year-old man, at Agbogbloshie while he was allegedly attempting to sell the stolen motorbike.

During interrogation, Atanzumi confessed to his role in the robbery and identified an accomplice known as Shadrach, who is currently at large.

The police confirmed that the stolen motorbike has been recovered and is being kept as evidence.

Efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest the second suspect, with authorities assuring the public that all necessary measures are being taken to bring him to justice.

Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, the Accra Regional Head of Public Affairs, Superintendent of Police Juliana Obeng, reassured residents that the police remain committed to combating violent crime and protecting citizens, especially delivery riders who are often vulnerable to such attacks.

She also stressed the importance of public cooperation, urging community members to report suspicious persons or activities that could help prevent similar crimes.

Police investigations are continuing, including efforts to determine whether the suspects may be linked to other criminal activities.

The Accra Regional Police Command has appealed to the public for information that could assist in locating the suspect still on the run.

The Command further reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining security across the region and advised delivery riders and members of the public to take extra precautions.

Riders, in particular, are encouraged to avoid carrying large sums of money or valuable items that could make them targets for criminals.
