The Obogu community in the Asante Akim South Municipality is in deep mourning following a mass burial held for 16 members of the Saviour Church of Ghana who lost their lives in a tragic road accident.
The fatal crash occurred on Monday, July 28, 2025, around 2:30 p.m. along the Atwedie stretch of the Kumasi–Accra highway.
The victims were returning from the church’s annual event in the Eastern Region when their vehicle collided head-on with a fuel tanker travelling in the opposite direction.

Eyewitnesses at the scene described the collision as horrifying.
Emergency responders arrived to find the vehicle carrying the church members completely mangled, and all 16 passengers were declared dead on the spot.
On Thursday, July 31, a sorrowful mass burial ceremony was held in Obogu, after which the victims were laid to rest side by side in a single large grave.
The ceremony drew hundreds of mourners, including relatives, clergy, fellow church members, and residents of surrounding communities.

Mourners sang hymns and offered prayers, their voices mingling with tears and tributes. Church leaders spoke with pain and reverence about those lost.
“They were returning from God’s work when this tragedy struck. We are heartbroken, but we take comfort in knowing they died in the faith,” a senior church official said during the service.
The loss has shaken the entire community.
Meanwhile, support continues to pour in for grieving families, as many try to process the sudden absence of their loved ones.
The Saviour Church of Ghana has declared a week of mourning, with memorial services scheduled at branches across the country to honour the memory of the departed.
