The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration (MoFARI) has refuted information circulating on social media to the effect that the Chief Executive Officer of Menzgold, Nana Appiah Mensah (NAM1), holds a service passport.
In a statement, the ministry said the Passport Office had not issued any Service Passport to NAM 1.
It said checks from its system indicated that NAM 1 only held an ordinary passport issued in Accra by the Passport Office.
The ministry, therefore, urged the public to disregard the said media publications.
Meanwhile, the state prosecution is still awaiting the Attorney General’s advice on the Menzgold case, which has seen over 18 adjournments since the court processes started in 2019.
NAM1 was arrested for allegedly defrauding thousands of people with his investment scheme.
The embattled CEO is yet to be charged almost three years after he was arrested and subsequent court appearances.
The state has yet to file processes for the trial to commence, but he was arraigned at the Accra Circuit Court on 61 charges, including false pretences.
When the case was called on Monday, 16 May 2022, the prosecutor leading the team Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Slyvester Asare, informed the court that “they are still waiting for the AG’s advice on how the case shall proceed”.
He, therefore, prayed for an adjournment to the second week of July 2022.
The trial judge Evelyn Asamoah subsequently adjourned the case to 16 July 2022.
The accused person was present in court in his youthful exuberance.
Earlier this year, on 21 February, NAM 1’s legal team asked the court to strike out charges against their client over ‘unreasonable delays‘.
The latest development makes it at least 18 times that the case has been adjourned as victims wait in vain to retrieve their investments.
