The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested Geoffrey Agbi, the suspected mastermind behind a local drug trafficking network, during a targeted operation at a gym within the Kuntunse Spirit Filling Station near Amasaman.
In a press statement issued on Saturday, May 31, 2025, NACOC confirmed that Agbi was apprehended on Friday, May 30, at approximately 6:20 p.m., following weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance by a special operations team.
“Several substances suspected to be illicit drugs were discovered and retrieved from his inner office,” the statement read.
Agbi is currently in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations.
Agbi’s arrest comes weeks after a previous raid on April 14, when NACOC operatives stormed a cluster of businesses operating on the Spirit Filling Station premises including a pub, boutique, salon, and the gym now linked to Agbi.
During that late-night operation, five suspects were arrested, among them Elvis Owusu Yeboah and Joseph Godsway, both instructors at the gym.
Godsway, a Nigerian national, and the others were believed to be part of a coordinated drug distribution ring.
Agbi, thought to be the owner of the gym and leader of the network, evaded arrest during the April raid and was subsequently declared wanted by the Commission.
Fresh intelligence suggested that Agbi had quietly resumed activities at the gym and recruited new staff to maintain the suspected drug operations. His capture is being hailed as a breakthrough in efforts to dismantle what NACOC describes as an entrenched local drug syndicate.
NACOC has pledged to intensify investigations and track down all individuals connected to the illegal operation.
“This arrest marks a critical milestone in our crackdown on local drug networks. We will pursue every lead to ensure the network is fully dismantled,” the Commission stated.
