Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club goalkeeper Benjamin Asare is basking in the glory of Ghana’s qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Asare starred in Ghana’s qualifiers and played out the entire duration in the Black Stars’ 1-0 win over Comoros that officially sealed the nation’s fifth appearance at the World Cup in six straight editions of the tournament.

In six World Cup qualifiers, Asare conceded just once and recorded five clean sheets to set himself as the undisputed starting goal keeper for the Black Stars and after helping the team to qualify Asare stated,

“I know my name will be mentioned in the book of days” on his X (formerly Twitter) page as the caption to a photo of himself celebrating the win.

 

Asare was one of two Ghana Premier League players who were part of the last iteration of the Black Stars in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Ghana is the fifth African nation to qualify to the 2026 World Cup.
