Murder In Wa

It is becoming more pronounced. It is getting murkier. Murder is taking foothold in Ghana. The heinous crime is happening everywhere on the evidence of cases in the records. Wa, capital of Upper West region is the latest in the news with regards to this tragedy, even though it is not new to the people.

Seven persons went missing within an unspecified period. Seidu Dakpuli, the latest corpse to be uncovered in a shallow grave, had body parts removed by the unknown assailants. The trend is becoming an eyebrow raiser not only in the people of Wa but for other keen observers.

Ghana, described as beacon of peace, which perception is firmed up by Global Peace Index, have the fine superlatives only to the surface. Beneath this poster are certain painful realities that question basis of the self aggrandizement and international platitudes.

Is a country only peaceful if without a conventional war ? Does peace exist in midst of continual inexplicable murders ?

Motives for what looks like serial murders are yet to be established by investigators. Some bore semblance with that of ill-fated Seidu Dakpuli in which the corpse was decapitated. Homicide police have difficult time dealing with the crime, for it becomes more delicate trying to figure out situations which turn premeditated murder.

Public cooperation will be of help as the Police acting on a tip off, succeeded in foiling an intended armed robbery on the Tetteh Quarshie-Madina highway in year 2020.

Daunted by this overhang, it is only fair to expect the police pay more attention to intelligence gathering which is silent part of their operations. For now, residents of Wa have spoken.

They have demonstrated against the growing spate of murders in Ghana, a phenomenon often treated like the normal and swept under carpet.
