Kwesi Appiah has left the shores of Ghana to begin his job as the head coach of the Sudanese national team.
Appiah, who is the Chairman of the Asante Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee (IMC) was granted permission to join the side by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
Despite being granted permission to sign a deal to coach the Sudanese national team, Kwesi Appiah will still maintain his role at the club.
Appiah, a former Ghana international on Monday, October 9 left the shores of the country together with Fatau Dauda and Ignatius Osei-Fosu.
Dauda, who is a former Ghana international will serve as the goalkeeper’s trainer while Osei-Fosu will also serve as the assistant coach.
The 64-year-old is expected to sign a three-year deal and will earn a region of $50,000 as a monthly salary.
Kwesi Appiah will be unveiled in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia where the team is currently camping due to the unrest in Sudan.
He has been tasked to revive football in the country and will also act as the General Manager for all the various national teams. He will also coach the Sudan Olympic Team.
Kwesi Appiah is not new to Sudanese football, having served as head coach of Al Khartoum in December 2014.
While coaching Al Khartoum, the Sudanese FA worked closely with him to help improve their game.
During his tenure at the, he led the team to a fourth-place finish in the league and qualification to the CAF Confederation Cup.
The following season, he led the club to its highest points tally per season in club history, 65 points, but they did not qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup.
Appiah’s last major coaching job was as Ghana national team coach, where he had a second stint between 2017 and 2020.
Kwesi Appiah meanwhile will serve as an Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
Kwesi Appiah is famously remembered for leading Ghana to qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
