KNUST murder: Suspect remanded for 2 weeks

Daniel Tuffour, the 21-year-old suspect in the killing of the final-year student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has been remanded for two weeks.

Tuffuor, also a student at the university, was arrested on Wednesday, February 27, by the Ashanti Regional Police after a thorough review of CCTV footage.

His arrest came after Joana Deladem Yabani was found dead in the early hours of February 27, 2025, near the KNUST Centre for Disability.

Tuffour was subsequently arranged before the Circuit Court at Asafo on Thursday, February 28 where he was remanded.

He is to reappear before the court on March 17, 2025.

Meanwhile, a new statement from the Management of KNUST said the investigators have uncovered crucial evidence to help the prosecution process.

It added that the police and the university security have retrieved the laptop and mobile phone of the deceased that were hidden behind the Flint Hostel, after further review of CCTV footage from the hostel.

The university management, in collaboration with the police, led by the IGP, has since intensified security in the school by deploying over 50 police officers, five mobile patrol teams from the anti-robbery squad, and 34 from the SWAT Unit to strategic locations on the campus.
