Proceedings in the much-watched $2 million Sky Train scandal were once again delayed on Monday, October 27, 2025, when the prosecution was ready to call its first witness, but one of the accused appeared without legal representation.

Justice Audrey Kocuvi-Tay, presiding over the Criminal Division of the High Court, issued a stern warning to former Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF) Board Chairman, Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi.

She cautioned that the court would continue the trial in his absence if he fails to appear with his lawyer by Wednesday, October 29.

Professor Ameyaw-Akumfi told the court that his new lawyer, Yaw Boafo, had not yet completed the necessary registration process to formally represent him.

The judge’s warning marked the latest twist in a case that has already seen several delays.

Professor Ameyaw-Akumfi and former GIIF Chief Executive Officer Solomon Asamoah face charges of conspiracy and wilfully causing financial loss to the state.

The allegations stem from a $2 million payment made to Africa Investor Holdings Limited in 2019 as part of the proposed Accra Sky Train project.

The ambitious plan, expected to cost between $2.6 billion and $3.2 billion, never materialised.

Chief State Attorney Sefakor Batse voiced frustration at the repeated postponements, saying, “The prosecution is fully ready to begin. Our first witness has been waiting for far too long”.

Earlier, the court dismissed a defence request to compel the prosecution to release certain documents, ruling that they were not in its possession.

Justice Kocuvi-Tay urged the defence to explore other legal options to obtain the materials, setting the stage for the long-delayed trial to finally move forward this week.
