Former Black Stars midfielder Laryea Kingston has vowed to give “110% to the job” following his appointment as head coach of Uganda’s national youth teams.
The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) confirmed Kingston’s appointment on a two-year deal.
“When you’re doing something, don’t give 100% effort only when people are watching. Sometimes you think no one is paying attention, but trust me, many eyes are on you,” Laryea said.
“I believe this opportunity to coach the youth in Uganda came because of the work I’ve put in over the years. They’ve seen how I handle the boys and believe I have what it takes to help their football grow.
“It’s a great opportunity, and I’m truly grateful for it. I’m going to give 110% to the job. Whatever I signed for, I’m going to give my all, and I can’t wait.”
Kingston’s arrival comes a year after he stepped down as Ghana’s U-17 head coach following the team’s failure to qualify for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.
Since then, he has been based in the United States, working with RPS Academies in Saint Lucie, Florida, where he continues to develop young talents.
Meanwhile, current Uganda U-17 coach Brian Ssenyondo will remain in charge for next month’s FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar, his final assignment at that level before the team transitions under Laryea’s guidance.
