The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested another suspect in connection with the violence at the Omanjor Chief’s Palace during the Homowo Festival on Saturday, August 30, 2025, which left three people dead and several others injured.
The suspect, 35-year-old Christian Saka Ahianyevi, a private security officer, was picked up on the same day of the incident. His arrest follows that of 26-year-old Newton Alotey, a dispatch rider, who was taken into custody on August 31.
According to the police, Ahianyevi was found with a locally manufactured pistol, a cutlass, and other exhibits. Meanwhile, Alotey was earlier arrested with 18 spent BB cartridges in his possession.
All items have since been retrieved as evidence.
The arrests were carried out through intelligence operations led by the Accra Regional Police Command with support from the Special Support Unit at the National Headquarters.
Police say both suspects are in custody, assisting with investigations, while a heavy security presence has been maintained in the affected communities.
In a statement issued on Monday, September 1, the Command urged residents and rival factions to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies.
It also appealed to the public to provide credible information on the whereabouts of other suspects by contacting the police emergency numbers 18555 or 191.
