The Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) has urged the government to assist its members who suffered substantial losses following the recent fire incident at the Makola Shopping Mall in Accra.
It will be recalled that on Friday night, a fire broke out at the Makola Shopping Mall, destroying approximately 200 makeshift structures.
Thankfully, no casualties were reported, although the fire’s cause remains unknown.
Joseph Tetteh-Pardi, Director of Communication for GUTA, emphasized the need for immediate government intervention to support those affected by the fire.
He stated that many traders had lost capital exceeding GH¢200,000.
Mr Tetteh-Pardi also called for the involvement of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to explore avenues of support for the affected traders.
He highlighted that their visit aimed to gather first hand information about the damage and assess how they could provide assistance.
