Gonja: Kikpandewura suspended over death of Mujipewura

The paramount chief of Kikpande in the Central Gonja District of the Savannah Region, Kikpandewura Kanyiti I, has been suspended indefinitely from the Kikpande skin or any other skin in the traditional area.

This decision came into effect on Tuesday 4 April at the Jakpa palace in Damongo after a meeting of 18 paramount chiefs and sub-chiefs in the region. The late Mujipewura, Abdul Rahman Bore, was murdered on 30 March at his palace in Mujipe by unknown assailants.

Many residents suspected the Kikpandewura for the death of the Mukipewura because of the long-standing chieftaincy disputes between the two chiefs.

A letter dated 4 April and signed by two paramount chiefs on behalf of the overlord of the Gonja Kingdom stated that the Kikpandewura should seize from performing any function as the chief of Kikpande with immediate effect.

The late Mujipewura has been laid to rest at his at his home in the Savannah Region in accordance with Islamic customs.
