Ghanaian blogger Ameyaw Debrah says the country’s Bloggers’ Association has formally called out one of its members over an interview widely condemned as insensitive and unprofessional.

Speaking in an interview on Monday (11 August), Debrah confirmed that the incident, which involved a blogger questioning former MP Adwoa Safo inappropriately during a period of national mourning, was discussed at a recent association meeting.

“The whole association went hard on him. We believe he now understands what he did was wrong and how he could have handled it better,” he said.

“Technology makes it easy to build an audience, but without guidance, influence can be misused,” he explained.

He expressed hope that the association’s efforts to establish standards and peer learning will “clean up the space and protect it for those of us who practise responsibly”.
