The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially announced the Black Satellites squad for the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, just 24 hours before their opening match against DR Congo.
The late announcement has drawn criticism from fans and journalists who have called for greater transparency in the player selection process leading up to this prestigious continental tournament.
The 26-man squad features a mix of domestic and foreign-based players, including promising forward Jerry Afriyie, who plays for CD Lugo in Spain, and attacking midfielder Abdul Aziz Issah of FC Barcelona B.
Notably, Dreams FC striker Aziz Musibau has also been included and is expected to play a crucial role in Ghana’s attacking lineup.
The team will be led by head coach Desmond Sakyi Ofei.
The Black Satellites are currently based in Suez for the tournament and are set to face DR Congo on Friday, May 2, 2025, at the Suez Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 18:00 GMT.
Ghana has been placed in Group C and aims to secure a top-two finish or one of the best third-placed slots to advance to the knockout stages.
Additionally, the four semi-finalists from the tournament will qualify for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile. Ghana secured its place in the U-20 AFCON by finishing as runners-up in the WAFU Zone B Championship.
With players from clubs such as Real Sociedad, FC Sturm Graz, and Zulte Waregem included in the lineup, expectations are high for a strong performance from the team.
