The Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted the headmaster of Benkum Senior High School (SHS), Emmanuel Nyarko, over his alleged sexual abuse of 15 female students.
The case came up after Mr Nyarko was involved in mass transfers of some teachers reportedly engaged in a similar offence.
Consequently, the GES asked Mr Nyarko to step down from his position to allow for investigations.
The Deputy Spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, Mr Yaw Opoku Mensah, explained that GES is closely monitoring the development in Benkum SHS.
“We are keeping a close eye on the development. This is actually within the domain of the management of the Ghana Education Service,” he told Joy News.
He explained that they were determined to ensure all rules and regulations were followed.
Although it is unclear when this alleged sexual harassment began, GES says it is determined to uproot such rot from all schools.
Mr Opoku added that a committee at the headquarters of the GES would handle the whole investigation, and the report and its recommendation would be given out to management.
