Yussif Iddriss

Gay friend bashed

Homophobic attacks in Ghana has assumed an alarming rate to the extent that some opinion leaders are beginning to express concern over the matter.

Sarki Bawah Giwa, a tribal chief at New Tafo Akyem in the Eastern Region, stated in an interview that the security agencies must intervene to stop human rights abuses.

“These attacks are becoming serious. What we know is that if someone commits a crime, he should be sent to Court. Even in Islam, every accused person must be given a hearing. But with this issue of gays, people just attack, beat and even kill them (gays) without consequences,” he stressed.

These comments came on the back of attacks on a certain Yussif Iddriss, who was severely beaten because two gays were found having sex in his room.

It was gathered that Musah Mohammed and Rexford, childhood friends of Yussif Iddriss, had visited him at New Tafo Akyem, and he left his two guests in his room, only for them to be discovered having sex there.

The youth pounced on them and subjected them to severe beatings.

When Yussif Iddriss arrived at the scene, he was not spared, as he was also beaten to a pulp.

At the time of filing this report, the whereabouts of Yussif was unknown.

“How can they (the youth) beat Yussif also, when he was not a sodomite? This whole homophobic thing is getting out of hand. The security agencies must stop the attacks,” Sarki Giwa added.
