GoldFields to announce sponsorship support for Ghana champions Medeama today

Mining giants GoldFields is set to announce a sponsorship support for Ghana Premier League champions Medeama in Tarkwa today, according to reports.

The mining firm through its GoldFields Foundation will announce the financial package to the Mauve and Yellow at the newly constructed TNA Stadium.

Reports say the Tarkwa based club is expected receive $100,000 yearly  as financial package from the are sketchy, Ghana’s leading football website understands the mining powerhouse will fork out $100,000 to the champions for a year.

The latest support is in sharp contrast to an earlier decision by the company against supporting the club in their African campaign – wit the Member of Parliament of Tarkwa-Nsuaem George Mireku Duker urging the company to reconsider its decision.

He stated at the time: “Goldfields Ghana must as soon as possible rescind their decision of not sponsoring Medeama again. It’s their responsibility to support Medeama, and as the MP, I want them to rescind the letter they wrote to the club. We will talk to their leadership in South Africa to see the need to sponsor Medeama.”

The MP’s intervention reflects the significance of Medeama’s achievements and their role as a representative of the Tarkwa community in the CAF Champions League.

The financial support from sponsors is vital for the club’s preparation and performance in the competition.

GoldFields will announce the financial support to the team after historic feat of reaching the group stage of the CAF Champions League.

The newly constructed TNA Stadium will be completed and handed over to the Assembly on March 11, 2024.

Medeama had been confident of using the facility as their home grounds for the group phase of Africa’s elite inter-club competition.

But that has been dashed after authorities announced the edifice will be completed in March 2024.

GoldFields support will add to the growing backing of top mining firms supporting the two-time Ghana FA Cup winners.

AngloGold have supported Medeama with $40,000 while Nguvu Mining has splashed $300,000 to become shirt sponsors of the Ghanaian giants.

Reigning champions, Al Ahly SC will headline Group D that consists of Algeria’s CR Belouizdad for a mouth-watering North-African derby, Tanzania’s Young Africans who finished second in the CAF Confederation Cup as well as Ghana’s Medeama who will be looking at causing major upsets in the group.
