A Jasikan Circuit Court has sentenced 21-year-old Acquah Mawuli to 12 years imprisonment for defiling a nine-year-old girl in the Oti Region.
The prosecuting officer, ASP Seth Vincent Kpodo, told the court that on March 4, 2023, the mother of the victim returned home to loud cries from one of the rooms in the house.
She quickly rushed inside, only to find her daughter and Mawuli naked on a bed.
ASP Kpodo said when interrogated, the victim told her mother that Mawuli had forcibly had sex with her.
She then called for help, and some neighbours rushed in, arrested the convict and handed him over to the Jasikan police.
The prosecuting officer added that the police issued a medical report form to the complainant to send the victim to the hospital for treatment.
During investigations, the convict confessed to having sexual intercourse with the victim.
He was then arraigned before the court and was charged with defilement.
He pleaded guilty to the charge, and the court presided over by His Lordship Alfred Kwabena Asiedu convicted him on his own plea.
This comes after a 34-year-old electrician was also sentenced to seven years in prison by the Jasikan Circuit Court in the Oti Region for defiling a nine-year-old girl.
Although the convict, Lodonu Kwasi, pleaded not guilty to the crime, he was convicted based on the findings of a police investigation.
