Two of the sixteen people injured in a premix fuel explosion at Ngyiresia, a community in the Essikado-Ketan constituency, have died.
The victims, 15-year-old Joseph Adom and 7-year-old Justice Dadzie, succumbed to their injuries at Effia-Nkwanta Hospital in Sekondi.
The explosion occurred on Saturday, May 18, 2024, as fishermen were transporting premix fuel in gallons to their canoes along the beach.
The Assembly Member for Ngyiresia-Mpasem, Gabriel Ato Mensah, confirmed the deaths.
He said the remaining injured individuals are receiving treatment at Effia-Nkwanta and Saint Benedict Hospital in Inchaban.
Two of the severely injured victims are being transferred to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for further care.
The explosion also damaged two vehicles and nearby wooden structures.
The community is in shock, and the police are investigating the cause of the incident.
