The Economic and Organised Crime Office has cracked down on a major cyber fraud and human trafficking network operating in the Mataheko Afienya area.

The operation, known as Operation LIFELINE, led to the rescue of seven Nigerians who were brought into the country under false promises and forced into illegal online activities.

The raid took place on Friday, November 14 2025 and resulted in the arrest of ten people. Three of them are suspected to be the masterminds behind the criminal setup, while the remaining seven are victims aged between 17 and 30.

All the individuals involved are Nigerian nationals. According to a statement released by EOCO on Monday, November 17, the victims were tricked with offers of decent jobs in Ghana.

When they arrived, they were met with fear, harsh treatment and pressure to engage in cyber fraud schemes that benefited the traffickers.

Authorities say the rescued individuals are now receiving care and support while investigators work to uncover the full operations of the syndicate.

The case has drawn attention to the growing link between human trafficking and sophisticated online crime, a trend that continues to put vulnerable young people at risk.

EOCO also used the opportunity to urge the public to report suspicious activities, especially those involving possible trafficking or cyber fraud.

The office called on landlords to be vigilant and conduct proper checks before renting out their properties so they do not unknowingly create safe spaces for criminal groups.

“Individuals involved in such illegal activities are strongly warned to desist, as the Office remains fully committed to pursuing and apprehending offenders,” EOCO said.

Operation LIFELINE signals Ghana’s strengthened resolve to fight organised crime and protect people who fall prey to deception and exploitation.
