The City Construction Limited, which was awarded a contract to construct the roads in Dambai of the Oti Region has reportedly abandoned the project due to financial and some contractual constraints.
Information gathered indicates that the Dambai town roads project was awarded in 2018 to City Construction Limited but was abandoned after the 2020 general election.
The roads in the regional capital have become impassable for motorists and commuters.
Speaking to the media, some residents, complained about the deplorable state of town roads in the area and threatened not to vote in the upcoming general election if the roads are not fixed.
The residents expressed worry that even the road leading to the Oti Regional Minister’s office was impassable whilst there were a lot of facilities that render services to the people in the area.
Commenting on this, the Oti Regional Minister, Joshua Makubu, sided with his people and expressed concern about the deplorable situation of the roads in the Regional capital.
He said there have been several engagements with the feeder roads department after realizing that the contractor working on the project was packing off from the site.
He assured that efforts were being made through the Minister for Roads and Highways and other executives to call the contractor back to the site to complete the project for easy movement.
Bad roads have become characteristic of the road network in Ghana, which has triggered demonstrations and sometimes chased out MPs visiting their constituencies.
According to some residents, the roads in the area were rendered muddy and slippery by the recent rainfalls, negatively impacting healthcare delivery and emergency service.
Also, on October 24, 2022, residents of Amasaman Okusubeade, Kojo Ashong, Oboom, and Three Junction hit the streets to demonstrate against bad roads.
The protest was dubbed: “Fix our roads demonstration.”
According to the residents, they have complained several times about the poor nature of the roads but to no avail.
The MP was pursued by residents of Kobeng, Seidi, and Amanchia when he visited the communities for a dialogue on Wednesday, August 24, 2022.
