A Circuit Court in Bolgatanga has remanded three staff members of the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital who were arrested for stealing boxes of medicine.
They, however, pleaded not guilty when they were arraigned on Monday, August 7, 2023.
Although their lawyers requested bail, the police prosecution team objected.
Explaining their reason for objecting to the bail application, the prosecution said the suspects refused to identify the people purchasing the stolen medicines.
Therefore, they asked the court to grant them more time to conduct further investigations to track the buyers.
The court considered the prosecution’s argument and remanded the suspects in custody for two weeks.
Meanwhile, the case has been adjourned to Tuesday, August 22, 2023.
A statement from the police disclosed that Raymond Asoke, a driver at the Bolgatanga hospital, was arrested when he was monitored loading boxes of medicines from a certain unmarked house into a saloon car.
A search in the car led to the retrieval of 12 boxes of various medicines.
The search was extended into the house, where 22 additional boxes containing various medicines were discovered and retrieved.
Further investigation led to the arrest of suspect Noeyelle Bridget, the assistant dispensary officer at the hospital’s pharmacy and suspect Raheem Fasilat, the regional storekeeper at the hospital.
According to the police, Raheem admitted to giving the boxes of medicines to the driver.
