Bullion van robbery: It was an insider job- Criminologist

Story By: Edinam Sablah

Criminologist, Dr. Jones Opoku-Ware is speculating the bullion van robbery that took place yesterday, June 22 at Ablekuma Fanmilk was possibly an insider’s job.

According to Dr. Opoku-Ware, information reaching him indicated that the same bullion van often visits the fuel station to convey money from the fuel station to the bank.

Explaining further, he stated that, because the people in the area were familiar with the movement of the bullion van, there is a high possibility that someone from the area, the fuel station, or people in the circle of the movement and conveying the money from the fuel station tipped off the armed robbers with the information they needed, hence executing their plan.

The robbers pounced on a bullion van that had made a stop at a fuel station during the day and shot the police several times at point-blank range.

Even though the bullion van driver escaped unharmed, the officer died on the spot.

The Ghana Police Service has confirmed in a statement that the police officer involved “has unfortunately passed on”.
