Black Stars’ challenges are beyond the technical team – Faisal Chibsah

Faisal Chibsah, a FIFA High-Performance Specialist, believes that the challenges facing the Black Stars extend beyond the coaching staff.

His remarks follow the senior national team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, marking the first time in two decades that they have missed out.

Ghana played six matches during the qualifiers, recording three defeats and three draws, ultimately finishing at the bottom of Group F with just three points.

Following this disappointing performance, football fans have called for the dismissal of head coach Otto Addo.

Reflecting on the team’s struggles after back-to-back poor showings in the AFCON tournaments in Cameroon and Ivory Coast, and their recent failure to qualify, Chibsah emphasized that the team’s issues are more complex than just the technical staff’s decisions.

A team with no desire, a team with no commitment, not adaptable and they played with no purpose, he told Sporty FM.

They were just passing and playing and it looked like they were forced to be at the tournament.

I have followed them but I think the problem is just bigger than technical, he added.

The Black Stars are now looking to improve their performance in the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers, where they will face Chad and Madagascar during Matchdays five and six.
