The Ajumako Police has arrested the Assembly Member for the Atwereboanda Electoral Area in the Central Region for defrauding unsuspecting job seekers.
The suspect, Joseph Dankwa, allegedly charged his victims GH¢18,000 each under the guise of facilitating their recruitment into the police service.
He collected GH¢8,800 as a processing fee and a part payment of the total amount from one of the victims.
The victim, who spoke to the media, said the suspect promised to refund the money if he failed to complete the process.
“Mr Dankwa, in an oral agreement, emphasized that he will refund any amount paid if the attempt made to facilitate the recruitment of my son into the security service fails,” he said.
However, he said all efforts to get a refund from the suspect failed, prompting him to report him to the Ajumako police.
The police command subsequently arrested Joseph Dankwa.
He is currently in police custody pending further investigation and arraignment.
Asempa allegedly collected between GH¢5,000 and GH¢10,000 each to enlist 30 victims into security agencies, namely the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, and Ghana National Fire Service.
