The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has called for stronger collaboration between traditional authorities and the Ghana Police Service, urging the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, to work more closely with chiefs as partners in community policing.

He made the appeal during a historic courtesy visit to the IGP on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II emphasised the need for a more structured and institutionalised partnership between the police and traditional leaders to improve security and build trust within communities.

He also recommended that police officers receive training in local customs and traditions, arguing that cultural understanding would enhance communication, prevent misunderstandings, and support peaceful conflict resolution.

“I have come to call for deeper, institutionalised collaboration between traditional authorities and the Ghana Police Service. Let chiefs be allies in community policing, and let officers be trained to understand the customs of the people they protect.

“Let dialogue come before deployment, and mediation before confrontation. This is not weakness; it is intelligence,” the Asantehene said.
