Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko have backed out of negotiations with Ugandan outfit URA FC for the signing of Steven Mukwala on a proposed four-year deal.
Report available has that Asante Kotoko’s proposed move to acquire the services of the 22-year-old in the ongoing transfer window has collapsed because the two clubs could not agree on terms.
The prolific striker was on the verge of completing a switch to the two-time CAF Champions League title holders from Ugandan Rivers Authority FC after agreeing to personal terms but the disagreement between the clubs has resulted in Asante Kotoko walking away.
Information gathered has that Asante Kotoko has no intention of getting close to the contractual obligations of the deal which has forced them to pull out.
Unless Uganda Rivers Authority FC soften towards their contractual obligations, Asante Kotoko are now expected to pursue other targets before the end of the transfer window this weekend.
Mukwala was expected to undergo a mandatory medical examination before joining the Ghanaian giants for a proposed preseason tour in Dubai this month.
Management of Asante Kotoko were interested in the signing of the Ugandan international following the decision of Coach Prosper Narteh Ogum to beef up his frontline options with the acquisition a prolific frontman as he already to offload some dead wood attackers in their folds in order to make room for the formation of vulnerable attacking upfront.
In 2019, Mukwala was loaned at Maroons FC for the new season 2019-2020 where he has scored 13 goals in 22 matches to clinch the 2019/20 Uganda Premier League golden boot award.
His speed and power to finish the ball caught the attention of several clubs last year including Asante Kotoko but Uganda Rivers Authority (URA FC) won the race to acquire him on a two-year deal with an option of renewal.
He ended the 2020/21 Uganda Premier League season as the top scorer of Uganda Rivers Authority (URA FC) after notching fourteen (14) goals in 24 matches.
Mukwala is currently a member of the senior national team of Uganda.
Asante Kotoko have been busy on the transfer market aiming for strategic signings after finishing second last season with no trophy.
Asante Kotoko have already signed eight players namely Clinton Opoku, Richmond Lamptey, Maxwell Agyemang, Samuel Boateng, Isaac Oppong, Richard Boadu, Augustine Agyapong and Samuel Appiah.
