Asante Kotoko defender Abdul Ganiyu Ishmael extends his contract

Ghana Premier League side, Asante Kotoko has officially announced a contract extension with defender Abdul Ganiyu Ismael ahead of the upcoming season.

According to the club, the centre back has agreed on a two-year contract with the Porcupine Warriors which will see him at the club until 2023.

The 25-year-old who joined the Porcupine Warriors from Karela United in October 2018 has since established himself as a key player for the club.

He has so far made 37 appearances in all competitions scoring four goals and also winning the MVP award on two occasions.

Ismail’s impressive performance in the Premier League last season earned him a Black Stars call up, making his debut in March against South Africa in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifications.

He also featured in for Ghana against Sao Tome and Principe and Ivory Coast respectively.

Meanwhile, there are reports of Ismail been rewarded with the club’s captaincy armband for the upcoming 2021/22 football season as the team looks for a new leader following the departure of former captain Felix Annan and deputy captain Emmanuel Gyamfi being transfer-listed.

He will be assisted by goalkeeper Razak Abalora and Mudasiru Salifu.
