Another final year student dies-GES confirms

A final year student of the Methodist Girls High School located at Mamfe in the Eastern region has died.

Cindy Aku Sika Addo died on Friday,July 17th at the Koforidua Regional Hospital from malaria.

A statement from the Ghana Education Service stated that Aku Sika Addo was rushed to the Tetteh Quarshie hospital on Thursday, July 16, around 11pm.

“The General Art 4A student was rushed to the Tetteh Quarshie hospital on Thursday, July 16, around 11pm, after her friends noticed that she was feeling unwell, her parents were immediately informed”

“She was later transferred to the Koforidua Regional Hospital where she passed away” the letter from GES read.

Cindy Aku Sika Addo is the third final year student to have died barely a week to their final exams.

Two weeks ago, a final year student of the KNUST SHS, Leonard Sam, died of a stomach ache at the Komfo Anokye Hospital,.

Last week another final year student, Nathaniel Yankey of Gwiraman SHS, also died on Wednesday, July 16 at the Essikado Hospital after complaining of a headache.

The Ghana Education Service has assured the family of its support in giving her a befitting burial.

The reopening of senior high schools amidst the COVID-19 outbreak has been thorny. Although no student has died from the dread contagion, students in at least nine senior high schools, a junior high school and one Nursing Training College have contracted the disease.
