United have been prioritising other targets thus far and a move for Morata may not be the best move as the 29-year-old has confirmed he is happy to be back in Madrid.

“I’m honest with my work. I’ve always come here wanting to work, work and work and I can’t do anything else,” he told reporters after the Getafe victory. “What goes on in the transfer market is not up to me, the only thing I can do is train every day to improve.

“Atletico are one of the best clubs in the world, there is a great team, a great human group and I am happy here. I have to keep working to keep improving.”

Morata’s comments came shortly after his agent Juanma Lopez ruled out a move away from the Wanda Metropolitano.

“He has started very well,” Lopez told El Chiringuito. “At the moment, he is at Atletico and he is very comfortable.

“Alvaro has a contract with Atletico Madrid, he is going to stay here.”

United are, however, exploring a move for Morata’s Atletico teammate Matheus Cunha, who replaced the Spaniard for the final seven minutes of the victory over Getafe.
