Akufo-Addo meets NPP flagbearer aspirants to urge unity ahead of primaries

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo held a breakfast meeting with the five New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirants on October 21 at his private residence in Nima, Accra.

According to a statement from his office, the meeting aimed to promote unity and goodwill among the aspirants as the party prepares for its presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026.

In his opening remarks, Akufo-Addo thanked the aspirants for attending despite their busy campaign schedules, calling their presence a sign of their commitment to the party’s future.

“Your presence this morning is a testament to your shared commitment to the collective good and prospects of our party,” he said.

He highlighted his close working relationship with each of them, stating that their candidacies are based on merit and their service to the NPP and Ghana.

The former President encouraged them to run issue-based campaigns that focus on their visions for the party and the nation.

“My primary commitment is to the unity of the NPP, the credibility of the process, and to ensuring the party is fully energised to win the 2028 elections,” he said.

All five aspirants, including Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Ken Ohene Agyapong, Dr Bryan Acheampong, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, pledged to maintain a respectful and competitive campaign.

They also promised to support whoever emerges as the party’s flagbearer, stressing the importance of unity after the primaries.

The meeting was also attended by senior party officials, including Hackman Owusu-Agyemang (Chairman of the NPP Council of Elders), Acting National Chairman Danquah Smith Buttey, General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, and former Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei-Opare.

Akufo-Addo urged party leadership to ensure a free, fair, and transparent process to strengthen party cohesion and boost the NPP’s chances in the 2028 general elections.
