A six-year-old boy, Papa Atta, met his untimely death after floodwaters swept him away at Tafo Ahenbronum in the Tafo-Pankrono Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
According to residents, he slipped and fell into an open gutter while playing in the rain.
The deceased was pronounced dead at the Tafo Government Hospital on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, after residents saw his body over 200 meters away from the accident scene and rushed him to the facility.
A relative, Mama Linda, confirmed the incident.
“We were all home when it began to rain. Papa Atta, his twin sister, and other children had returned from school and were playing inside when it began to rain. We had no idea he had gone out to play in the rain with his friends who were already outside”.
“We later heard some people shouting about a child who had been swept away by the water, only for us to learn that it was Papa Atta”.
“Residents in the area searched for him only for us to discover his body over 200 metres away from our house full of injuries,” she narrated.
He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Mama Linda noted that the body of the deceased has since been deposited at the morgue of the Tafo Government Hospital.
The rains on Wednesday also caused havoc in the Greater Accra Region.
Floodwaters at Peace Town, a suburb of Ngleshie Amanfro in the Ga South Municipality, swept away a mother and her two children.
According to reports, they were escaping the flash waters that had entered their house but were swept away.
According to a witness, Nii Quashon, they were screaming for help, but there was nothing the people could do.
He said they have mounted a search for the mother and children and hope to find them alive.
