A tragic road accident at Sehwi Asikuma in the Bia West District of the Western North Region has claimed the lives of six people and left two others in critical condition.
The accident occurred when the tricycle, which was carrying the rider and seven market women, collided head-on with a timber-laden truck travelling in the opposite direction.
According to eyewitnesses, the timber truck was moving at a high speed, forcing the aboboyaa rider to swerve in an attempt to avoid a collision.
Despite this effort, the truck reportedly crashed into the tricycle with great force.
The impact completely wrecked the aboboyaa, killing six of its occupants instantly.
Two women sustained critical injuries and were rushed to the Essam Cocoa Clinic, where they are currently receiving intensive medical treatment.
The aboboyaa rider is reported to have fled the scene and has yet to be located. Meanwhile, the driver of the timber truck is cooperating with the police as investigations continue.
Officers from the Ghana Police Service and emergency responders promptly arrived at the scene to control the situation and assist the injured.
The bodies of the deceased have been taken to a morgue for preservation and identification.
Police have launched a full investigation to establish the exact cause of the accident.
